With the autumn breeze, flu season in the Northern Hemisphere is about to begin. While influenza viruses circulate year-round, flu activity typically peaks between December and February.
All age groups can be affected, but certain populations face a greater risk of severe disease or complications, including pregnant women, children under 5 years of age, older adults, and individuals with chronic medical conditions. Diagnostic testing plays a key role in early treatment and infection control. Rapid tests are often preferred for their ease of use and low cost, and data show they detect influenza particularly well in children.
Hytest offers a broad selection of monoclonal antibodies (MAbs) (Cat. #3IN5, 3AH1, 3HG3, 3HI7, 3IH4) for detecting influenza A infections. These MAbs recognize either influenza A nucleoprotein (NP) or hemagglutinin (HA) from various subtypes, enabling identification of the respective antigens from different biological samples such as nasopharyngeal swabs and nasal aspirates, as well as in research samples (e.g., infected cell lysates). We also offer a panel of MAbs (Cat. # 3IF18, 3BH9, 3BM17, RIF17) specific to NP, HA, and matrix protein M1 of the influenza B virus.
These MAbs demonstrate high affinity and specificity across different immunoassays, including direct or indirect ELISA, sandwich immunoassay (e.g., lateral flow), and Western blotting.
